Spiration Valve placement is a very simple and very fast procedure. With the umbrella design of the SVS valve you can easily occlude bronchi. You have some anchors at the distal part to avoid migration or coughing out (valves). And with the very thin and flexible catheter, you can also place the valves in sometimes difficult to reach areas.

Let´s Talk Respiratory
Emphysema is a type of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) that is characterized by the destruction and enlargement of air sacs within the lungs, which results in decreased lung elasticity. This in turn causes the lungs to become hyperinflated, leading to breathing difficulties.
Causes of Emphysema:
- Exposure to industrial pollutants or dusts,
- cigarette smoking, and
- a familial or genetic disorder.

Causes Wheezing

Often Misdiagnosed as Asthma

4 - 10% of Adults have COPD in Europe

Mainly Caused by Smoking

3rd Biggest Killer Worldwide
Emphysema is a condition that has a serious impact on patient quality of life. However, standard medical care and oxygen treatments often become ineffective over time, leading to a need for innovative new therapies.
To address this need, Olympus offers the Spiration Valve System (SVS) – A Proven Concept in Severe Emphysema.

Minimally Invasive, Maximally Comfortable

SVS — An Innovative Endobronchial Therapy
The unique umbrella-shaped design of the Spiration Valve redirects air from diseased parts of the lung to healthier parts, all while allowing trapped air and secretions to escape naturally along the airway wall, so that patients may breathe easier.
Emphysema Patient Selection & Treatment Process
Clinical Work Up and Screening
- Pulmonary function tests.
- HRCT Scan.
SeleCT Report
SeleCT offers you a non-invasive patient screening solution that assists you with selecting the qualified patient and target lobe by providing key measures of:
- Fissure integrity.
- Emphysema severity.
- Heterogeneity.
- Lobar volume.
Spiration Valve Therapy
After successful patient evaluation and target lobe selection, SVS valves are placed in the most diseased lobe. The unique umbrella-shaped design of the Spiration Valve redirects air from diseased parts of the lung to healthier parts, all while allowing trapped air and secretions to escape naturally along the airway wall, so that patients may breathe easier.
Post-procedure Management
Proper patient observation after procedure for treatment success and management of any potential adverse events.

Noninvasive Patient Selection in Emphysema
Non-Invasive Patient Selection in Emphysema
SeleCT is a quantitative CT analysis service that provides you with precise quantitative measures of lung parenchyma in patients with severe emphysema who may be suitable for bronchial valve treatment.
For the Management of Prolonged Air Leaks
The Precision You Need For The Outcomes You Want
Your Challenge
Postsurgical air leaks continue to be the most common complication following surgical resection and a leading cause of increased hospitalization, morbidity and cost.
Traditional Solution
The traditional management of prolonged leaks involves chest drainage and observation, followed by more invasive treatments when leaks do not resolve. Traditional “wait and see” approaches can lead to increased length of stay and frustration for both the provider and patient.
Our Solution
The Spiration Valve System procedure is minimally invasive and provides surgeons and pulmonologists with a method for limiting distal airflow that accelerates resolution of an air leak.
How We Enable Patients to Be Themselves Again
Endobronchial valve therapy with the SVS offers a customized, minimally invasive treatment option for severe emphysema and air leak patients.
In clinical studies with SVS, patients showed the following benefits:
- Improved ability to breathe
- Decreased shortness of breath
- Increased ability to perform daily activities
- Improved quality of life
- Patients with air leaks can be discharged quicker from hospital and get back their lives.
We believe that our technology should help care teams to focus on what matters most — caring for their patients.
The Patient Is the Ultimate and Most Important Beneficiary
SVS — for treating a diseased lung in emphysematous patients or a damaged lung resulting in air leaks.
